More than any other video games, simulation games allow you to flex your creative and strategic muscles in truly amazing ways. Whether you’re planning cities, building societies, or controlling lives, the power is in your hands to express yourself while shaping entire worlds and destinies.
The Broad Appeal of Simulation Games
EA produces some of the most famous, bestselling, and critically-acclaimed simulation games of all time. The Sims, for instance, is the bestselling PC franchise ever, with more than 100 million games sold. In it, you create your own Sims (i.e., simulated people) and lead them through all of life’s moments, big and small. Its phenomenal popularity lies in the huge creative freedom and control it puts in the hands of you, the player.
The city-building game SimCity is an original simulation game franchise and has spawned numerous sequels and expansion packs. More recently, the blockbuster Spore has taken the simulation game category to new and exciting places, from primordial tide pools to the outer reaches of space. Along your evolutionary journey you create or transform virtually everything in the galaxy—creatures, vehicles, buildings, even entire cities and planets.
Simulation Games Go Online
Online simulation games add a new level of strategy and creativity to the genre, allowing you to inspire and be inspired by other players’ creations or test your strategies against theirs. In Spore, for example, your galaxy is populated with content created by other players. If you see something you like, you can tweak it, try to re-create it, improve on it. As you encounter other player-created civilizations, you can decide whether to play nice and trade with them or get mean and try to conquer them. Just watch out they don’t get the upper hand and wipe your civilization off the galactic map. The possibilities are literally endless in online simulation games.
EA has many more exciting simulation games in store, including new entries in the Spore and The Sims franchises. The Sims 3 is one of the most eagerly anticipated titles of the year and promises to bring even more innovation and excitement to the simulation genre.
